The Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation

Stage 2: Belle Island BbGc-6, Kingston, Ontario. Stage 2 Archaeological Assessment for Re-Interment

Belle Island

Project No. 00-11

Prepared for the City of Kingston

Working in conjunction with First Nations, the City of Kingston and the province of Ontario, the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation conducted testing to determine a suitable location for the reinterment of human remains on Belle Island in the Greater Cataraqui River. The second of three potential locations was found to be suitable, being close to the original interments, sufficiently distant from the eroding shoreline, with sufficient soil depth for these and any future interments if necessary and lacking substantial cultural deposits.
