Pottery
by Bethany
This pottery is blue transfer printing. Transfer printing was invented by James Brooks.
A copper plate is engraved and then ink is poured in, then pressed on the ware.
Some of the pottery is a floral design, which could be from the earlier half of the century, where it was most common.
One piece has DAVE stamped on the bottom as a brand name, probably from DAVENPORT General Ceramics. There is also a piece with PORT stamped on, probably from the same name. The two pieces however, are in different fonts, meaning they are from different pieces or companies. The PORT is written in an arch, unlike the DAVE. Stone China from Davenport was written in an arch, so its possible the PORT piece could be Stone China.
