3 Bottles

Daniel MacLeod

Bottle 1

This bottle is relatively small compared to the others. This bottle used to contain Soothing Syrup. I know this because it says soothing syrup on the bottle. This was probably a form of shampoo or soap . The glass bottle is composed of silica, usually sand, alkali, and a fluix. When mixed together it causes them to form a greenish or amber-colour. The company that it was manufactured by was probably Curtis and Perkins. The bottom the is flat.

Bottle 2

This bottle is one of the two larger bottles, and was probably made from the same components, due to its greenish colour. This bottle has the words "Clark Bros." and "Toronto" on it, so I believe that it was manufactured by the Clark Bros company in Toronto. This bottle has more of a rounded bottom (convex base). The top has been broken due to age, and I can't figure out what the contents would have been.

Bottle 3

This is the largest bottle of all three, and it's the same colour as all the others. The words on it are "Kenneth", "Campbell and Co.", "Medical Hall", and "Montreal". I think that it was manufactured in Montreal by the Campbell and Co. company, and it was used to hold medicine. The top has been broken off, and it is cracked in a lot of places. This bottle has a convex base like the second bottle.

Glass Info

To put writing or decorations on glass, they would use different kinds of moulding techniques, including contact moulding, pattern moulding, optic moulding, and press moulding. Other ways of making designs or shapes were wheel engraving, cutting, sand blasting, diamond point engraving, and enameling.
