Transferware Printing

By Matthew

Transfer ware printing: a style of ceramic including pottery and dishware. It was developed in 18th century England in the area of Staffordshire.

It starts with a copper plate with imprint and ink stamping onto paper. The paper then transfers the pattern onto the pottery. It is then glazed to finish. Major 20th century makers are: Crown Ducal, Echoho Wood and Royal Staffordshire.
