In cooperation with the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation, the Kingston Archaeological Centre houses a large and important collection of artifacts relating to the settlement and occupation of Eastern Ontario, in particular the Kingston area. The artifact storage area and processing lab may be visited for a first-hand look at the artifacts after excavation and before they are displayed or repacked. Archaeological and archival collections contain important information on the prehistory and history of Eastern Ontario, and are available to academic researchers by appointment. For more information, please see the terms of use of the artifacts, and please contact us.

The Library and Archives

The Covering Illustration of 'Out of Old Ontario Kitchens' by Christina Bates

At the Kingston Archaeological Centre, the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation maintains a large and dynamic research library and archives. Holdings include books, articles, maps, photographs, videos, microfiches, and reports; subjects include archaeology and history in the Kingston area, in Canada, and around the world, as well as the practice of archaeology, marine archaeology, geography, and more. An extensive collection of maps is also maintained, some dating from as long ago as the seventeenth century, detailing the development of the Kingston area from the time of the earliest European presence in the region. A database of holdings facilitates research. For information on using the library, please see our terms of use; to visit the Foundation's library, please see how to visit the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation at the Kingston Archaeological Centre.
