Canada Summer Jobs

Canada Summer Jobs is a Government of Canada initiative that provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities.

In providing funding to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees, Canada Summer Jobs helps to create summer work opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.

The Foundation employs students through the Canada Summer Jobs programs to support its educational programs and Interpretive Centre throughout the summer months. The students work at the Centre on preparing artifact reports, greeting visitors, giving tours, preparing special exhibits, running Centre events, and delivering education programs.

Young Canada Works in Heritage Organizations

YCW in Heritage Organizations (YCW-HO) is a job creation program under the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy that aims to provide summer work experience students can build on. While employers gain access to a pool of enthusiastic young workers, students gain the opportunity to work in the field of culture and heritage while earning money for their education.

The Foundation receives its Young Canada Works funding through the Canadian Museums Association – an organization that “works for the recognition, growth, and stability of the [museum] sector”.

We use the positions funded by the Young Canada Works in Heritage program to employ the Archaeological Instructors in our "Can You Dig It?"© Summer Field Experience Program. Our student instructors are with us from June – August and gain valuable archaeological field experience as well as experience running educational programming in a heritage setting.
