The first annual November Lecture of the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation
On Tuesday November 1, 2005 at 7:00 pm at the Kingston Archaeological Centre, guest lecturer Dr. Jean-Luc Pilon, Curator of Ontario Archaeology at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, will present the Cataraqui Archaeological Research Foundation's first annual November Lecture, entitled The Tale of Starvation.
Follow Dr. Pilon as he reveals how he and his team initially hoped to discover evidence of the 1810-11 starvation of the Northwest Company men at the Fort at the Forks, NWT which included one of his ancestors. Instead their excavations revealed the remains of lumber making and York Boat construction of the Hudson's Bay Company in this distant outpost on the Mackenzie River. Challenges of arctic and subarctic archaeological techniques will be discussed as well as pre-contact archaeology in the NWT.
